Conference of young women researchers in the offing

KATHMANDU, Jan 14: Martin Chautari (MC) is organizing Conference of Young Women Researchers in Kathmandu on 6th and 7th March 2011. The conference, according to the organizers, has two main objectives, to promote participation of young women researchers in humanities and social science disciplines in Nepal, and to promote women´s voice on important socio-political issues of Nepali society in the public domain .

“There is an immediate need to bring the voices of women out in public space,” says Devendra Uprety, a co-convener of the conference.
All interested candidates are required to submit abstracts of their research papers done in social science or humanities discipline. The candidates, however, must have already completed their research and have a near final draft of their write-up based on that research.

The candidates have to be below 35 years of age as of March 1, 2011 to be eligible for participating in the conference. However, exceptions will be made for those with little prior experience of presenting academic papers in conferences. Even non-Nepali women researchers are eligible to apply. The priority, nonetheless, will be given to Nepali females. In case of a group research, the rules require that the lead researcher and paper presenter be a woman.
The forum, according to the organizers, has already received an overwhelming response. “We have received papers from students in India as well,” informs Uprety.
The abstract text should not exceed 500 words and can be written in either Nepali or English. The title of the proposed paper and its main arguments/findings must be clearly stated in the abstract. The candidates are also required to submit a single page CV highlighting contact details and college/university-level education and prior research experiences and publications if any.

Both the abstract and the CV can be sent as one soft file by email to chautari.conference@gmail.com <mailto: chautari.conference@gmail.com>; or sent by post to Martin Chautari, GPO Box 13470, Kathmandu; or hand delivered to the office of Martin Chautari at 27 Jeetjung Marg, Thapathali, Kathmandu.

The deadline for submission is 5pm, 4 February 2011. The decision on the submitted abstracts will be conveyed through email by 10 February, 2011.

The final paper of the selected candidates is required to be within 5,000 words and submitted by 28 February 2011, the outstanding papers will be published as a Martin Chautari publication. A total of around 15 papers will be selected for the final publication.
