An Other Voice: English Literature from Nepal

 

Because the English language entered the country rather late and remained confined to narrow circles, Nepal's English literature has remained young and unsure of itself long after English writers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have have gained maturity ad world renown. This collection of short stories and poems showcases the best of English literature being written in Nepal today, both by Nepalis writing in English and by expatriate writers who have come to call Nepal home. Imaginative, irreverent, open-hearted and inclusive, An Other Voice is a look at Nepal's English literature as it comes of age.

Peoetry by Wayne Amtzis, Hannah Chi, Padma Prasad Devkota, Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, D.B. Gurung, E. Ann Hunkins, Manju Kanchuli, Tek B. Karki, Kesar Lall, Greta Rana, Yuyutsu R. D. Sharma and Abhi subedi.

Deepak Thapa is the books editor at Himal Books, and Kesang Tseten is a writer and filmmaker. Both are based in Kathmandu.
